Delburn Wind Farm Update
Over the next few weeks, you may see preliminary works being undertaken at the Delburn Wind Farm site.
The Delburn Wind Farm will be constructed in the Strzelecki Range to the south of the Latrobe Valley. The site straddles the Strzelecki Highway with Hernes Oak to the north, Coalville, Narracan and Thorpdale to the west, Darlimurla to the south, and Boolarra and Yinnar to the east.
Located within the existing HVP plantation, 33 turbines will generate 640,000 MWh of clean energy each year and be connected to the existing electricity grid. This is enough to power 135,000 average Victorian homes, or 85% of Gippsland’s homes.
Each turbine will generate 6.2 MW. The blade tip height will be 247 metres and the hub height up to 166 metres above ground level. The lower rotor swept path will be 85 metres above foundation level.
Based on current projections, the Delburn Wind Farm is planned for construction in 2024-26 with a 30-35 year operating life.
On 27 March, 2022 the Delburn Wind Farm was granted four planning permits by the Victorian Minister for Planning.
The planning permits are for the construction of 33 turbines and associated terminal station within the HVP Thorpdale Tree Farm. The Minister did not approve the construction of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), on the recommendation of the Panel who found that the information provided about the siting and fire-safety measures for the BESS were inadequate for it to recommend in favour of it at this stage.
In issuing the approval, Minister Wynne also approved the release of the Panel Report.
All documents are published on the Department of Transport & Planning website. Alternatively, contact us to request a copy of the planning permit documents.
