February 2024 Update

Storm Update

The severe storm on 13 February impacted many people and towns across Gippsland. Our thoughts are with all the individuals, families and businesses affected.

Widespread damage left many homes uninhabitable with trees and powerlines torn down, roads blocked and buildings and infrastructure damaged. The loss of electricity and communications for many days made the situation even more challenging. Wherever you are located, we hope you and your family are safe. The community’s determination is strong as residents and volunteers rally together to work on the enormous clean-up and recovery job.

On the day of the storm, our meteorological mast in Delburn recorded a maximum wind speed of 154 km/h. Wind speeds in Mirboo North would have been much higher given the amount of serious damage in the town at the epicentre of the storm.

We have been asked how the Delburn Wind Farm would survive in such severe wind conditions. The towers and turbines are designed to withstand extreme weather events, including cyclones and severe storms with windspeeds similar to those that went through our region.

Construction Update

We continue planning and detailed discussions on the major procurement and construction contracts. Construction of the Delburn Wind Farm is now planned to commence in the third quarter of 2024.

The head contractor and major subcontractors have not been appointed yet but as soon as this occurs, we will inform the community and the hundreds of people who haveregistered with us for employment and supply work on the wind farm.

If you are interested in employment or supplying goods and services to the Delburn Wind Farm, it is not too late to submit an expression of interest. All you need to do is visit our website at delburnwindfarm.au/employment/ and submit your contact details, CV, business capability statement or supplier details. You will then be added to our database and contacted once the head contractor is appointed.

Terminal Station Panel Hearing

Planning Panels Victoria have scheduled a Panel Hearing on 14 March, 2024 to hear submission on our application to amend the Delburn Wind Farm Terminal Station Planning Permit.

The amendment application requests minor amendments to the wording of some conditions to improve language and interpretation certainty, including the bushfire conditions. Information on the Panel Hearing can be found at the  Department of Transport and Planning website.

Thank you to those members of the community who have taken the time to participate in this process.

We will inform the community of the outcome, once a decision has been made by the Minister for Planning following the Panel’s recommendations.
